Bennie Richard Hayes

Bennie Richard Hayes, 76, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Atrium Health Mercy, surrounded by his beloved family.

Richard, as he was known to friends and family, was born on November 16, 1947, in Lumberton, NC, to the late Bennie and Hazel Hayes. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1966 where he played on the varsity football team. He married Linda Hayes in 1970. After serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, he moved to Charlotte in 1972 and attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating with a degree in Economics in 1975. He then began a decades-long career as a Certified Public Accountant before retiring in 2022. 

Richard was a voracious reader and enjoyed writing in his spare time. He will be remembered for his wit and sense of humor. 

He is survived by his children, Jonathan Hayes and Michaela Williams, and his wife Linda Hayes.
