Carol Hyland Gray

June 12, 1935 — April 13, 2014

Carol Wright Hyland Gray, 78, passed away on April 13, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She was born June 12, 1935 in Mount Holly, New Jersey, was raised in Moorestown, New Jersey and called Charlotte her home. Carol was the daughter of George Calvin Hyland and Alice Wright Hyland. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her beloved sister Alice. Carol graduated from Moorestown High School and the Jefferson Medical School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a head nurse. In 1957, Carol married the love of her life, Marvin Kenneth Gray, and upon his completion of Law School at Wake Forest University, they moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where Marvin practiced law and Carol continued her career in what she always did best " taking care of others. Above all, Carol was a fiercely devoted and proud mother and grandmother. Carol is survived by her sister, Jane Ellis Hyland of New Jersey; her husband Judge Marvin Gray; son, Marvin Kenneth (Ken) Gray, Jr. and his wife Barbara Fisher Gray and daughter, Jane Gray Boland and her husband Mark Daniel Boland, all of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Gray, Emily Gray Massey and husband Thomas Chase Massey, Kathryn Gray Boland and Ashley Nicole Williams; and many special nieces and nephews. Unending thanks from the family to Tamela Pinzon for the devoted care of her friend over the last several months. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road.
