Margaret Aldridge

September 1, 1927 — May 10, 2026

Sarah Margaret Tucker Aldridge, 98, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by the family and community she loved so deeply. Born on September 1, 1927, to John Fulton Tucker and Myrtle Shepherd Tucker, Margaret lived a life defined by faith, education, service, and unwavering devotion to those around her.

A graduate of Wadesboro High School, Margaret pursued higher education at Greensboro College, earning a bachelor’s degree in religious studies with a minor in mathematics. Her love of learning never faded. After the birth of her third son, she continued graduate studies through Queens College of Charlotte and University of North Carolina at Charlotte, setting an example of lifelong curiosity and determination for her family and students alike.

For over 27 years, Margaret dedicated herself to teaching mathematics at Cochran Junior High School. She taught general math, general algebra, geometry, and middle grade economic exploration, earning the respect and affection of generations of students. Her classroom reflected both her sharp intellect and her disciplined demeanor, and she believed deeply in the ability of every child to learn and grow. She valued discipline and perseverance, and those lessons extended far beyond the classroom walls.

Margaret’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. A longtime member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, she was an active participant in the Miller Class and served faithfully in many roles throughout the years. She spent four years as Director of Christian Education, taught Sunday school and Bible study, coordinated the establishment of the church’s memorial garden, and served as a historical coordinator, preserving the stories and traditions of the congregation she cherished. She was also a proud scout mother to three Eagle Scouts, supporting and encouraging her sons through every stage of their lives. Her home was one of steady welcome, where family gatherings, church friendships, and shared meals created lasting memories for generations.

Margaret carried a deep appreciation for the world around her and embraced every opportunity to explore it. An avid traveler, she journeyed throughout the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, and traveled internationally to Saipan, Guam, and many countries across Europe. She found joy in mathematics, conversation, gardens, music, and the simple pleasure of learning something new each day.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roscoe “Al” William Aldridge; her son James Richard Aldridge; her brothers, C. Frank Tucker and wife Agnes Crawford Tucker; J. Fulton Tucker and wife Martha Downer Tucker; and Perry Alan Tucker and wife Betty Blackwell Tucker.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Lou Tucker Burroughs (and husband Winston Burroughs, deceased), and nephews Robert Burroughs and Joseph Burroughs; her son Michael Tucker Aldridge and granddaughter Sarah Flanagan and her children Colin Flanagan and Maura Flanagan; grandson Steven Aldridge; her son Robert Alan Aldridge and granddaughter Teak Aldridge; along with many extended family members, friends, former students, and church family who will remember her with love and gratitude.

Margaret’s life was one of strength, steadfast faith, and generous service. Known for her sharp mind, direct nature, and high standards, she challenged those around her to do their best while remaining deeply devoted to her family, students, church, and community. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to guide and inspire those who knew her.

The family is being served by Tribute & Tallent Funerals & Cremations of Charlotte.
