David Gordon Matthews, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Yuba City, CA, on May 11, 2026.

Born June 1, 1947, in Carmel, CA, Dave proudly served in the United States Army during the Korea and Vietnam eras, attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4).

He later worked as a carpenter and in military logistics at McClellan Air Force Base.

Dave loved fishing, camping, long drives through the mountains and along the coast, classic rock music, dogs, and spending time with family and friends.

He was known for his enthusiasm for life, his direct honesty, his generous spirit, and his trademark greeting, "Hello der!" He especially enjoyed making homemade jam and sharing it with others.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dale Matthews; daughter, Amanda; grandchildren, Flora, Gabe, Ellie, and Matt; nieces, Deann and Jennifer; nephew, Rick; along with many stepchildren; great-nieces; great-nephews; extended family members; and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1 PM, at New Beginnings Wesleyan Church in Marysville, CA.

Dave will later be interred with military honors at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Beginnings Wesleyan Church.

Dave's life was marked by enthusiasm, generosity, loyalty, and love, qualities that will continue to echo through the lives of those who knew him.
