Joann Boone

Obituary Joann Boone, age 78 of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Columbine West Health and Rehab Facility. Joann was born January 25, 1941 to Thomas and Claudia Romero in Fort Collins, Colorado. Joann earned her certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse by attending night classes at Fort Collins High School. She worked for Columbine Health Systems for 33 years as an LPN and head medication nurse. She married Robert Earl Boone May 5, 1970. Joann was the family matriarch. She loved her family first and foremost. Family gatherings around the holidays were always organized by Joann. She was very involved in her children's activities; volunteering to be the room mother. She would help with class parties and field trips, among other things. She also volunteered as den mother for her sons' boy scouts troop. Joann's other hobbies included reading, crocheting and making ceramics. She also enjoyed bowling, and played on a league with friends. Joann would occasionally indulge in a bit of gambling. She went every spring break with friends to Las Vegas and would visit Blackhawk Casino as well. Joann is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Earl Boone, her brothers Abe and Jimmy Romero, her sisters Theresa Romero, Mary Gallegos and Margaret Gomez, her grandson Desmond Roybal, and a great granddaughter Raelyn Martinez. She is survived by her sons Jerry Romero, Michael Romero (Annette Hoyt), Tom Romero (Angel Romero) of Fort Collins, son Troy Boone (Cathy Boone) of Lakewood, CO and Matthew Romero (Gina Romero) of Cheyenne, WY; her daughters Teresa Rice (Bruce Rice), Rhonda Martinez (Paul Guerrero), and Melissa Boone of Fort Collins; her brother Ben Romero (Wellington, CO) and sisters Elsie Haugland of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Vera Moreno of Fort Collins; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Columbine West Health and Rehab Facility for the excellent care provided to their beloved Joann. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 am, Friday, March 22, 2019 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 300 W. Mountain Ave, Fort Collins. A reception will follow the service at the American Legion, 2124 County Road 54G, Fort Collins. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday, March 22, 2019 between 8:30 and 9:00 am or on Thursday, March 21, 2019, to Vessey Funeral Service, 2649 E. Mulberry St., A-1, Fort Collins.
