Eric John Pierson
Jul 6, 1963 — Mar 12, 2026
Eric John Pierson was born July 6 1963 in St Paul, MN to Sharon (Hammerstrom) and Gary Pierson. He took his last breath on March 12, 2026 with the love of his life, wife of 17 years, Lori Lundstrom by his side. “The Gentle Giant” will be remembered for his warmth, generous spirit, musical talents, and ability to see humor in everything. Eric was the guy who could play any instrument in your band, fix your gear, build your studio or produce your record.
Eric played in bands throughout his career (Motorhome, Johnny Quest, Dander, God’s Favorite Band, Brass Elephant, Like Hell, and the North Electric to name a few) but was best known as a sound man and producer. For over 16 years his job as Sound Engineer for Soul Asylum took him to venues all over the world including Bill Clinton’s White House, the opening of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, MTV Video Awards, the Keith Richards X-Pensive Winos Tour, SNL, and The David Letterman Show. He did live sound for and toured with many bands including Sheryl Crow, Arcwelder, the Mekons, Zuzus Petals, Gear Daddies, Agitpop, the Jayhawks and Babes in Toyland. His producer credits appear on releases on Twin/Tone, Amrep, Big Money, Columbia, Warner Brothers and A&M. The list of bands he helped is too extensive to name. He was generous with his knowledge and his skills, always ready to step in if a band member got sick or the band needed an extra guitar player or drummer, doing sound, producing records, driving the van. His knowledge of musical equipment was vast, and he loved visiting guitar shops to check out their wares and buy or sell gear. Playing, recording and engineering music were his calling.
In the early 2000s Eric left the touring life, apprenticing under Nick Ciola (Gear Daddies) to learn the construction trades, eventually becoming a lead carpenter with Hanson Remodeling. He met Lori in 2004, and together they planted roots in NE MPLS where they bought a home in 2005, then married on 9/20/2008.
Eric is survived by wife Lori Lundstrom; his parents, Gary (Pam) Pierson of Oakdale, MN, and Sharon Pierson of East Grand Forks, MN; and his mother-in-law Barbara Lundstrom, and sister-in-law Paula (Craig) Davison. Eric is preceded in death by siblings Jennifer and Jay Pierson, father-in-law David Lundstrom, and brother-in-law Tim Lundstrom.
A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Hennepin County Medical Center.
