Mark Peter Winterer
February 8, 1958 — March 23, 2026
Mark Winterer
Lifelong St. Paul resident Mark Peter Winterer, the youngest of 10 children, died at age 68 from complications related to a brain tumor. He was born Feb. 8, 1958, and died March 23, 2026.
Mark lived for many years in the West Seventh neighborhood home built by his grandparents in 1923. Through his career as a cab driver he developed a legendary knowledge of Twin Cities streets and formed many friendships with those he first met as customers.
Mark loved his Sheltie dogs as well as guitars and music; he turned his living room into a studio where he played the blues with friends. Mark competed in the motorcycle sport of observed trials and helped organize state, national and international events.
He is a graduate of St. Luke’s Grade School, Brady High School, and Inver Hills Community College, where he studied law enforcement.
Mark was preceded in death by his companion of many years, Laurie Martin; parents Charlotte and Richard Winterer; sisters Joanne and Betsy; and brother John. He is survived by sisters Judy (John), Ginger, Cheryl (Marvin), and Chrissy; brothers Jim (Lisa) and Tom (Neysa); many cousins and 89 nieces and nephews.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul.
The Winterers extend many thanks for the kind and loving care their brother received over the last two-and-a-half years at Regions Hospital, Highland Path assisted living, Caretta Senior Living of Maplewood, and Grace Hospice.
