Robert George Murray
December 13, 1944 — January 21, 2026
Robert George Murray (Bob) passed away at his home after a courageous fight against cancer (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. He was 81 years old. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, January 30 at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave. Saint Paul, MN, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery.
Bob was born on December 13, 1944 in Ramsey County, Minnesota. He was the only child of Robert Stanley Murray (Murph), and Mildred Mary Benjamin Murray (Millie). He grew up in St. Paul and was a lifelong Minnesotan.
Bob lettered in varsity baseball and graduated from Cretin High School in 1962. Bob went on to serve his country in the army national guard for six years, from 1965 through 1971; a commitment that reflected his sense of duty and responsibility.
Bob married Marylynn (Marilyn) Ann Montag in 1967. They were married for 38 years until her tragic death in 2005. Together, they raised seven children and moved from West St. Paul, to Eagan in 1977, and then to Cannon Falls in 1990, where he and his family established Promised Land Stables - a successful business where they bought, sold and bred over 100 horses.
Bob built a notable career with 3M starting in 1969, where he worked for over 43 years before retiring in 2013. He earned a Chemical Engineering degree in 1981 and contributed to the invention of magic tape and glue stick adhesives. He was also known for his intelligence, strong work ethic, and dedication to providing for his family.
Bob found love again, married Karen Ann Hunt in 2010, and moved back to Eagan in 2012 where he spent his remaining years as a retiree, traveling around the world.
Bob was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his seven children: Jennifer (Thomas) Flammia, Christiane (Gale) Mausolf, Pamela (Ray) Lee, Daniel (Megan) Murray, David Murray, Kerry Murray and Robert Murray; nine grandchildren: Jessica (Dustin) Lamb, Natalie (Colton) Pearson, Abigale (Bryson) Felton, Colton Murray, Lucas Murray, Marilyn Mausolf, Tucker Murray, Jackson Mausolf, and Dustin Murray; wife: Karen (Hunt) Murray, step-children: Nathan Hunt, Andy Hunt, Amanda Hunt & Lauren Hunt; and step-grandchildren: Leland Hunt, and Isabella Hunt.
Bob will be remembered for being full of life, his dad jokes, positive attitude, unwavering faith in God, thoughtful nature and the values he instilled in those around him. His legacy lives on through his children and the many lives he touched.
