Anne Moye

March 16, 1926 — May 25, 2026

Anne Strunk Moye, 100, of Lexington, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on May 25, 2026.

Born in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, on March 16, 1926, Anne lived a remarkable life defined by service, compassion, humility, and devotion to family and community. She was the beloved wife of the late Benjamin R. “Ben” Moye, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Anne graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing in 1947 and began her career in New London, Connecticut. Adventurous and independent, she later accepted a position in the operating room at Duke University Hospital, moving alone to Durham, North Carolina, during the height of the polio era. There she met Ben Moye on a blind date.

After their marriage in December 1948, the couple moved to Clinton, South Carolina, where Ben coached at Presbyterian College. They later settled permanently in the Midlands, where Anne began a distinguished 42-year career at Baptist Medical Center. She served in numerous leadership and educational roles, including nursing instructor, Director of Nursing, and a role in the senior administration at Baptist Medical Center, where she helped oversee nursing services and nursing education. Anne played an instrumental role in advancing nursing education programs and developing departments and initiatives that shaped generations of nurses throughout South Carolina and beyond.

At a time when leadership opportunities for women were far more limited, Anne became a respected mentor and advocate who was deeply passionate about nursing education.

Though her professional accomplishments were extraordinary, Anne was best known for her servant’s heart. Following her retirement in 1992, she devoted herself even more fully as an active member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church and served with God’s Helping Hands, an organization dedicated to serving individuals and families in times of crisis.

Anne was also active in Civinettes, the women’s auxiliary of Civitan, served as a board member for the Lowman Home, and remained deeply involved in her children’s education and school communities. She and Ben were active PTA participants and board members throughout their children’s school years. She also served as President of the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce during an important and formative period for the organization.

Whether through nursing, teaching, church work, volunteerism, mentoring, or simply offering encouragement, Anne consistently lived a life centered on helping others. She was honored with the Key to the City of Columbia by the Mayor of Columbia and recognized by the Lexington County Chronicle in 2006 for her decades of service.

Anne will be remembered as a caring and selfless giver with sharp wit, remarkable intuition, and unwavering strength. She believed in doing things the right way and was never afraid to speak up, stand firm, or advocate for others. For many, Anne became a trusted source of wisdom, reassurance, practical help, and steadfast support throughout life’s challenges.

She loved her family deeply and treasured every gathering, celebration, and moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She especially cherished hosting annual family reunions, creating traditions and memories that became a cornerstone of family life for generations. Anne also had a lifelong love of gardening and always maintained a large vegetable garden, finding joy and peace in caring for flowers, plants, and the beauty of the outdoors.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Richard “Richie” Moye (Irelou), Paul Moye (Ann), and Cynthia Anne Moye (Branden).

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brad Moye and his daughter, Victoria “Tori” Smith (Dalton), and their children, Barrett and Savannah; Laura Moye (Stephen) and their children, George and Lillian; David Moye (Lisa) and their son, Stanton; Charles Moye; Brian Moye (Laura) and their son, Thomas; Sarah Brown (Leland) and their children, Nora Katherine, Benjamin, Owen and Mackenzie; Jennifer Boyd (Andrew); and Casey Moons (Allison) and their son, Oliver.

She is further survived by many beloved extended family members, cherished friends who became like family, church family, former students, nurses, and countless others whose lives she touched throughout her century of life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Coach Benjamin R. Moye, and her son, Donald “Donnie” Moye.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Receiving of friends will begin at 1:00 PM, and the service will begin at 2:00 PM. A reception in the church fellowship hall will immediately follow the service.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, friends, church family, nurses, volunteers, and loved ones who supported Anne throughout her life and during her final days.
