Columbia – A celebration of life for Marie, 85, of Columbia, will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Mausoleum in Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072.

Marie passed away peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2026 at home. Born in Greenville, SC, November 29, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Eileen J. Compton and the late William Ralph Compton (Mabel). In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Douglas and Carl Milton Compton, Sr., her sister-in-law Bobbie Compton Cook, her miracle baby, Myrtis W. Fowler and her favorite son-in-law, Gregory S. Hardison. It brings joy to our hearts to know they have all been reunited.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Mare' W. Hardison (Gregory) of Columbia, SC; her nephew and his wife, Carl ‘Mickey’ Compton, Jr. (Dawn) of Greenville, SC; her beloved grand-daughters, Lyndsay Marie Murray (Joseph) of the home, Olivia Simone Fowler (Damjan) of Vienna, VA; and the generation of great grand-daughters she got to enjoy: Alexa Marie, Londyn Jayne, Kayla Elizabeth, Lily, and Eve. She loved you endlessly, ESC.

To those who loved her most, she wasn’t simply Marie Wright—she was “Mimi.” Mimi had a quiet way of making people feel important. Whether she was helping someone across the counter during her years with the United States Postal Service or spending time with those she loved, she believed kindness mattered. Those who knew her will remember her for her warm heart, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. Whether through a kind conversation, a helping hand, or simply being present when someone needed her, she left an impression on countless lives.

Her greatest accomplishment wasn’t found in the awards she earned or the years she worked—it was the family she loved so deeply. She found her greatest joy in watching children become parents and grandchildren become adults, always celebrating life’s milestones with pride and unconditional love.

In her final chapter, Mimi was surrounded by the people who loved her most. She remained in the comfort of her home, where she was cared for each day with extraordinary love, patience, and dignity by her granddaughters, Lyndsay and Olivia, who made it their mission to ensure she was never alone. Even as dementia gradually stole pieces of her memory, it could never diminish the love that surrounded her.

Her legacy is not measured only by the years she lived, but by the compassion she showed, the family she nurtured, and the generations who will continue to tell her stories. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren carry pieces of her with them—in their laughter, their resilience, their kindness, and the love they share with one another.

Her family finds comfort in knowing that the love, values, and memories she shared will continue to live on through each of them. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
