“Anchors aweigh, my boys

Anchors aweigh

Farewell to foreign shores

We sail at break of day”

A devoted husband, loving father and Papaw, and proud United States Navy veteran, William Benny Waldron II completed his earthly voyage on June 22, 2026. He was blessed to spend his final days in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who offered prayers, support, and shared cherished memories during his final days. Your kindness, compassion, and friendship brought great comfort and will always be remembered.

Benny was born in Marion, South Carolina, and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1975. Following graduation, he honorably enlisted in the United States Navy.

On August 14, 1980, Benny married his soul mate, Pamela Waldron. Pam was his steadfast companion—his rock, his “old battleaxe,” his North Star, and the love of his life. Their bond was one of enduring devotion, strength, and unwavering love. Together with their daughter, Tonya, they navigated smooth seas, rough waters, and all the demands of military life.

Benny, Pam, and their daughter spent the next 15 years traveling the world together. During his naval career, Benny served aboard aircraft carriers on extended deployments, often lasting nine months. As an Aviation Ordnanceman First Class (AO1), he was responsible for the handling, management, and loading of aircraft ammunition and weapons. He served with distinction during multiple military operations, including Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Benny was recognized for his exemplary service, including the honor of Sailor of the Year at NAS Memphis.

Following his retirement from the United States Navy, the family returned to Columbia, South Carolina. Benny pursued a second career in HVAC and later retired from the University of South Carolina in 2015.

Benny will be remembered for his integrity, humor, and unwavering honesty. He never met a stranger and always knew how to bring people together with laughter. He lived his life with kindness, wit, and positivity. His laughter was contagious, and his presence brought comfort and joy to those around him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pam Waldron; his children, Tonya (Gary) Hallman, Rog (Sabrina) Rexroad, and Mandy Waldron; his grandson, Peyton Hallman; his sisters, Debbie (Gibbs) DeHihns and Sharon (Russell) Rawl; his sister-in-law, Nancy (Curt) Davis; his brother-in-law, Brian Johnson; and his childhood best friend, Dennis Cline. He was adored by his nieces and nephew, Joshua DeHihns, Melissa (Matt) Yuhas, Esther (Bob) Maldonado, Katherine (Chris) Kip, and Kendra Turk. He loved his family deeply and they loved him.

He was reunited with his parents, Ken and Shirley Waldron, following his passing.

The family prays that all who knew Benny may find their North Star and have peace during their journey, as he did. We encourage all to love deeply and laugh often in his memory.

“Through our last night ashore, Drink to the foam, Until we meet once more, Here’s wishing you a happy voyage home.”
