George Nelson , 87, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026.

George was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in Europe in the early 1960s, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. His disciplined nature and mechanical aptitude led to a distinguished 33-year career as an aircraft electrician with Northwest Airlines and later Delta Air Lines. Though his work took him across the country—including time in Northern Virginia and Miami, Florida—he spent the majority of his career in Minneapolis, Minnesota, ensuring the safety and precision of the aircraft he maintained.

Beyond the hangar, George found great peace and joy in playing the violin and organ with his family. In retirement, he traded the snowy winters of Minnesota for the warmth of Gilbert, Arizona—a move inspired by his greatest passion: his grandchildren. He rarely missed their football and soccer games and loved capturing those moments through photography.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Walfred Nelson and Hilda (Steen) Nelson Rucci; his brother, Peter; and his sister, June. He is survived by his two sons, Eric and Kyle; his beloved grandchildren, Sydney and Zachary; and his sisters, Noreen, Margaret, and Sonja.

A private celebration of George’s life will be held by the family.
