Kenneth Harvey Bright
Aug 14, 1945 — Jul 5, 2026
Kenneth Harvey Bright, affectionately known as "Ken" to most, "Kenny" to his mother, and "Tennessee" to his fellow truck drivers, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at Hospice of the Valley's Lund Home in Gilbert, Arizona, at the age of 80.
Ken was born on August 14, 1945, in Panama City, Florida, to Paul Jones Bright, Sr. and Ilene Cashwell Bright.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Ward Bright; his children, Donna Bright, Rachelle Hennigan and her husband Eric, Tracy Bunch, Bret Bright and his wife, Carolyn, and Dori Hockenjos and her husband, Fred; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lisa Bright.
Ken briefly served his country in the United States Army before receiving an honorable discharge. He then devoted 45 years to a career as a professional truck driver—a profession he truly loved. Known on the CB radio as "Tennessee," he found joy in life on the open road and took great pride in his work. Truck driving wasn't simply a job to Ken; it was part of who he was.
Those who knew Ken will remember his quick wit, humble spirit, determined (and sometimes stubborn) nature, and his remarkable gift for storytelling. Whether sharing memories from the road, family adventures, or tales that grew a little better with each telling, he had a way of captivating everyone around him. He loved making people laugh, and his stories will continue to be shared by those who knew him best. He loved wholeheartedly and, in return, was loved beyond measure.
In recent years, Ken often joked that he "had medical conditions," facing life's challenges with humor and resilience. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now free from pain and resting in the presence of the Lord.
Ken's legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. His life was defined by hard work, devotion to his loved ones, a love for the open road, and the stories that brought smiles to so many faces. Ken will be cremated, and memorial service details will be announced at a later date. Though his voice is now silent on the CB radio, "Tennessee" has made his final journey home. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
