The location has served Ontario, in the Downtown Ontario Retail District, since 1907, when the Peterson family began selling caskets and coordinating funeral arrangements from their furniture storefront. In 1911, developer J.R. Moore constructed a dedicated building on Oregon Street anchoring the business downtown, and the undertaking division was sold to local funeral director George Beechler. In 1925, architect Louis Vogan designed a purpose-built mortuary at 78 NW 1st Ave, which became the permanent home of the continuing operation and remains the location's current address. Separately, in 1933, Burt and Joyce Lienkaemper established the original Lienkaemper Funeral Home in Nyssa, Oregon, later expanding into Ontario and Vale. In 1961, partners Bertelson and Burt Lienkaemper purchased the existing Ontario business, consolidating it as the Bertelson-Lienkaemper Memorial Chapel. In 2004, the business became part of joint operations known as Lienkaemper-Thomason Funeral Centers. The business has operated under its current name, Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel – Ontario, since 2018.
