Denis Patrick Lucey Denis, at age 89, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2011 in Visalia with his children by his side. He was born on September 16, 1921 in San Francisco, raised in Oakland and graduated from McClymonds High School. Denis and his recently deceased wife of 54 years, Patricia (McHugh), were both first-generation Irish and long-time residents of Lafayette. He spent his last three years in Visalia, caring for Patricia. Denis' strong work ethic, devotion, love, optimism and ability to enjoy every day of life will be forever remembered by his children: Denis Lucey, Jr., of Santa Rosa and his children Bridget, Patrick and Megan; Jim (Serena) Lucey of Vancouver, WA and their daughters Gabrielle and Natalie; Maureen (Mark) Fisher of Visalia, and their children Connor, Iain and Caitlin; and Patty (Rob) Johnson of Walnut Creek and their children Meredith, Grant and Everett. He was preceded in death by his older siblings: Thomas, Helen (Gault), Mary (Kinsey), and Anne (Feehan). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews. After serving in the US Army during World War II, Denis studied and trained for a career in commercial construction. He began as a project manager and through his diligent work became a VP and Chief Estimator for Rothschild & Raffin, which was acquired by Swinerton Inc. He retired in 1983. Family and friends are invited to attend a Rosary Service Thursday, June 30th at 6 pm at Oak Park Hills Chapel, 3111 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek. A Catholic Mass celebrating Denis' life will be held Friday, July 1st at 11 am at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1101 Keaveny Ct., Walnut Creek. Burial is to follow immediately after at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette. Reception will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Bay Area Crisis Nursery in Concord where Denis volunteered for several years.
