Lue Doris Woodard McLamb, 97, departed her earthly home on June 5, 2017. With the help of family, caregivers and Hospice, she was able to fulfill her wish to remain in her home until she was called to her Heavenly Home to be with God and a host of His Angels. Surrounded by her family and amazing caregivers, Mrs. McLamb’s final days were filled with love and peace. Doris was born on March 1, 1920 in Johnston County to Lue Pearl Atkinson and Seth Walker Woodard. She graduated from Glendale High School and East Carolina Teacher’s College. She married C.O. McLamb in 1941; the 41 years they shared together were precious to both of them. Dedicated to enriching the lives of all children, they taught together in Johnston and Columbus Counties, moving to Forsyth County in 1948. As educators, they firmly believed that “Goodness and good teaching is not lost - it will bear fruit sometime, somewhere.” MamaMac loved playing basketball in her younger days; in her later years, she watched any game she could find on TV - calling the games her “company.” She was exceptionally organized, keeping a daily log of her activities for over 35 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing the piano, visiting shut-ins, Garden Club, Book Club and attending Love’s United Methodist Church, where she taught Kindergarten for thirteen years and was a member of the Mecum Circle. She collected red birds and angels. She loved her family dearly; children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Nothing brought her greater joy than gathering with her extended family every summer at the Woodard Family Reunion for over 40 years, a tradition her children will continue in her honor. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, C.O. McLamb (Mac); three sisters, Varneda (Arco) Miniard, Mavis (Carl) Beamer, Esther (Willis) Dewar; one brother, Willard (Lib) Woodard. She is survived by her children, Belinda (Alan) Beard of Winston-Salem and Bradford (Brenda) McLamb of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Dickens, Jennifer Beard, Kelly (Jason) Brett, Christopher Beard, and Sarah McLamb; five great-grandchildren, Aulden Dickens, Ella Carsyn Dickens, Holton Dickens, Noah Brett and Brooks Brett. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Home Loving Senior Care, Options for Senior America and Hospice and Palliative Care Center for their countless contributions which enabled Mom to remain at home. We were especially blessed with the gifts of loving care provided by Dr. Alison Snider, Emma Veronica Pratt, Lorry Hall, Melissa Harris, and Lorene Richardson, who have truly been Mom’s Angels on Earth. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday June 7th at Love’s United Methodist Church in Walkertown. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held at 11am Thursday June 8, 2017 at Love’s United Methodist Church in Walkertown. Mrs. McLamb would like to invite any of her students who attended Love’s Weekday Kindergarten to sit together at the front of the church during her service. Mrs. McLamb loved flowers. Following the service, all flowers received will be shared with families at Brenner Children’s Hospital and Hospice.
