Elizabeth Alice Burke February 5, 1939 - January 7, 2015 Elizabeth (Liz) was born in Portland, Maine and spent much of her life traveling first with her father, then with her husband, Thomas, both of whom served in the Air Force. These travels included two overseas tours to England. In 1978, Liz and Thomas retired in Tucson, AZ where she continued to be a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. In later years she returned to college and earned degrees in Social Work and Gerontology. She worked for a while before starting her own business doing Recreational Therapy for elderly in care homes in Tucson. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1976. Liz enjoyed her church activity and served in many capacities. She always had a smile for everyone and it was said that she was a friend to all she met. Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony C. and Elizabeth A. Pazera and by her brother, Anthony. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Burke; sons Kenneth (Lori) Burke of Tucson, William Burke of Tucson, and Jeffrey (Elaine) Burke of San Diego. She has nine grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She is survived by a brother, Richard Mellor and a sister, Mary Mabee. A viewing service for friends and family will held on Friday, January 16th at 9:15 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 6901 East Kenyon Drive, Tucson, AZ. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, directly following the viewing. She will be interred after the funeral at Binghampton Cemetery located at 4001 North Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to your local food bank or animal shelter.
