" Ethel Laura Nelson, 97, of Longview St. died Sunday at Wingate Nursing Home. Born in Worcester, January 15, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Lars G. and Maria (Gustafson) Wirstrom. Ethel worked briefly as a secretary at Rathbone Corp. and Palmer Foundry. She was the head billing clerk for 40 years at the former Colorado Fuel & Iron, retiring in 1962. She joined the Second Congregational Church in 1954 and was a member of its Women’s Fellowship and Material Aids committees. She was also a member of the Palmer and Monson Senior Centers, and the Quaboag Rebekkah Lodge in Monson. She is survived by three nieces, Ann Wirstrom of Holyoke, Jane Daniels of Springfield, Sandy Wirstrom of Vermont and Lois Reynolds of Palmer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at the Second Congregational Church at 11:30 a.m. Calling hours have been omitted and burial is private. Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Donations may be made in her memory to the Second Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 1080 Pleasant St. Palmer, MA 01069. "
