Hershel Lynn Adams 1921 - 2012 Monterey- Hershel Lynn Adams died at the age of 91 on December 8, 2012, in Monterey, the town he loved and called his home for nearly fifty years. A true member of the greatest generation, he made his career in the Navy, serving this country in World War II, where he was stationed aboard a submarine on the Pacific front, in the Korean War, as a carrier aviator, and in the Vietnam War, aboard the USS Enterprises as a nuclear weapons officer. From humble origins in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, where he was born on September 20, 1921, he achieved high levels of education. After WWII, the Navy sent him to Penn State where he earned a BS degree. He applied to and was accepted into Naval Aviation, and earned his pilot wings of gold. While still in the Navy, he earned a Master?s Degree in Operations Research from the University of New Mexico. But most all of Lynn was a loving and steadfast family man. His wife Margaret, who preceded him in death in April 2011, remained the most beautiful girl in the world to him after nearly 65 years of marriage. He was loyal to his three children, Laurlyn, Scott and Holly and gave them his unwavering support in good times and bad. He cherished his grandchildren, Tyler, Caleb, Ali and Laura, and then his step-grandchildren, Shannon and Gina, and until the very last days of his life, wanted to know what and how they were doing. All survive him. He loved the outdoors, quietly contributed to his community through Meals on Wheels and the Boy Scouts, among other activities, and lived a life of integrity and humility. He will be deeply missed by all. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date. Visit www.missionmortuary.com for condolences.
