Robert H. Kendrick, 93, of Kingsport, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He loved his Lord and Savior above everything. Born in Sullivan County, he was the son of the late John and Hettie Gilliam Kendrick on June 25, 1923. He was and will be remembered as being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII receiving many medals, including the Purple Heart and three bronze stars. He was a 60 year member of the American Legion and retired from Eastman Kodak after 40 years of dedication. Robert was a long time member and deacon at Riverside Avenue Baptist Church in Kingsport. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Jr.; daughter, Linda Kennedy; sister, Marie Horton; brother, Clarence Kendrick; and an infant brother. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 70 ½ years, Thelma Lane Kendrick; son, Chris Kendrick and wife Stephanie of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, Kathy Overbey and husband Jackie, Sr. of Mt. Carmel and Rita Farmer and husband Bradley III of Kingsport; son-in-law, Stanley Kennedy of Kingsport; 11 grandchildren, Scott Kendrick and wife Jennifer, Natasha Rowland and husband Dan, Cora Kendrick, Bob Overbey and wife Tammy, Bill Overbey and wife Terry, Jackie Overbey, Jr. and wife Wendi, Christie Simpson and husband Junior, Laura Eastman and husband Earl, David Kennedy, Rachel Black, Brad Farmer IV and wife Pam; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces; one nephew; special sisters-in-law, Mildred Sampson and Wanda Webb and husband Roy. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Wellmont Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert's honor to Riverside Avenue Baptist Church, 996 Riverside Ave, Kingsport, TN 37665 or to the charity of one's choice. A committal service will be held, Thursday, 1:45pm, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Benny Mauk officiating. Military honors will be accorded by The American Legion post 3/265. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport by 12:50pm. Pallbearers will be grandsons, great grandson, and sons-in-law. An honorary pallbearer will be Brad Farmer IV. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is serving the Kendrick family.
