He is the son of the late James Davidson Thornton and Ruth Madalene (Faith) Thornton. He served in the Navy from 1959 to 1963. He is survived by his daughter: Natalie Thornton; mother : Ruth Madalene (Faith) Thornton; sister: Lillian Elizabeth Barnhardt and brother: George D. "Buck" Thornton. . .
