William H. "Bill" Way, 65, of Church Hill, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 14, 2014 at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Surgoinsville, lived most of his life in Kingsport and had lived in Church Hill for the past seven years. He served in the U. S. Army as a demolition expert during the Viet Nam War. Bill was as an over the road truck driver having worked for Burlington Trucking, M.S. Carrier and retired from A & M Express. He enjoyed playing pool and throwing darts. Bill was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors of V. A. Medical Center and to U. T. Hospice. He was preceded in death by a grandson, William Taylor Stapleton Way; parents, DeWolfe and Mary Helton Way, Sr.; brothers, Paul Way, Dewolfe "Jr." Way Jr., Eddie Way, Jimmy Don Way and a special friend, Edith Comer. Surviving are his son, William "Spanky" Way and fiancé Melissa; daughter, Treasa Way; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Wheatley, Betty Hite and husband, Harold, Kathryn Bombailey and Mary Guy; brothers, Bob Way and Billy R. Way; several nieces and nephews; special granddaughter, Ashley Way; great niece, Brooke Bombailey and special friends, Andy Fowler and Neal "Preacher Man" Castle. A military graveside service will be held at 10:45 am Tuesday June 17, 2014 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard. Pallbearers will be Andy Fowler, Tim Gilreath, Tinker, Jordan Bombailey, Nicholas Bombailey and Ron. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:30 am. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hawkins County Color Guard, C/O VFW Post #9754, P.O. Box 174, Church Hill, TN 37642. Carter-Trent Funeral Home is serving the family of William "Bill" Way.
