Mary Lee Hansen

Mary Lee Hansen (Johnston) passed away on July 2nd, 2026 at the age of 95 in Parker, Colorado. Born in Alexandria, Indiana on February 15th, 1931. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1949 and began a lifetime career as a Nurse. Mary Lee was the Vice President of her nursing class at Indiana University and graduated in 1952. She married Jim (James) in 1955 and they resided in Gary, Indiana; Casper, Wyoming and finally settled in Arvada, Colorado. She continued her educations throughout the years and completed her Masters Degree in Public Health Nursing at the age of 55. She worked for St. Anthony’s hospital for many years and at Arvada Health Center and Julia Temple in administration. In addition, she volunteered for Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Mary Lee and Jim were a founding family at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in 1968 and were involved in the Altar and Rosary Guild and Senior Club for decades.

Over the years, she built a life centered on family, faith, work, service, creativity, and community. Mary Lee retired as a Public Health nurse and kept up her multi-state nursing licenses until she was 94. Mary Lee was known for her seamstress skills and found joy in many different hobbies to support those around her. Her grandchildren truly appreciated her hobby of making them handcrafted doll houses. Many family memories are centered on the hand-made pajamas she gave at Christmas time.

Mary Lee leaves behind two sons and their spouses Brett and Patty of West Valley, Utah and David and Kevin of Parker, Colorado. She also leaves behind her deceased daughter’s widower Doug and his current wife Lori of Eaton, Colorado. Mary Lee was blessed to have many nieces, nephews, cousins, 9 surviving grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Mary Lee was preceded in death by James (husband of 53 years, Chris (sister), Beth Anne (daughter), Shayla (granddaughter) and John (grandson) and many dogs named Ralph. Family and friends are invited for Funeral Mass at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church12735 W 58th Ave, Arvada, CO 80002 on Tuesday July 28, 2026 at 10:30 AM. A luncheon will follow mass in the Orleans Center. Mary Lee’s legacy of loyalty, work-ethic, perseverance, humor and creativity will continue in the lives of all who loved her.
