Melanie F. (Howes) Leighton

Melanie F. Leighton, née Howes, of Conifer, Colorado, passed away on July 25, 2026, at the age of 66.

Born in Connecticut to William and Jacqueline (Couture) Howes, Melanie spent her early years in the state and she would always carry New England with her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Melanie was a quiet and independent woman with a stubborn streak that those who knew her recognized well. She had a special love for animals and found comfort in their companionship throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Kristen S. Nabarrete and her children, Lillian and Daniel Nabarrete; and Alaina Leighton and her husband, Damien Hopkins, along with their children, Troy Leighton, Kieran Leighton, and Kaia Hopkins. She is also survived by her brother, Jonathon Howes and his wife, Sharon; her sisters, Amy Asselta and her husband, Roger, and Lisa Eifler and her husband, George; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Melanie’s life will be held at a later date in Connecticut, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory in the place she first called home.
