Brad M Hussung
May 30, 1955 — Jun 13, 2026
Brad Martin Hussung, 71, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with Merkel cell carcinoma.
Brad was born on May 30, 1955, in Sterling, Illinois, to Edwin and Barbara (Ewert) Hussung. He graduated from Sterling High School and Illinois State University where he enjoyed playing football. It was at Illinois State University that he met the love of his life, April Falkenthal. Together they moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where they built a beautiful life over the next five decades.
Brad was the owner of Hussung Construction in St. Petersburg, where he spent decades building homes, restaurants, and projects throughout the community. He was known for his strong work ethic and deep dedication to his clients and community. He was also a proud member of the Squires Club of St. Petersburg.
A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg, Brad served as an Elder, on the Property Committee, and with the Men's Meatloaf Ministry. He also participated in mission trips to Honduras, living out his faith through service to others.
Brad will be remembered most for his personality and presence. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen and welcomed. He never knew a stranger and had a natural ability to connect with others through humor, storytelling, and generosity. One of his physicians perhaps described him best: "I've never met a man whose endless generosity seemed so effortless, as if he didn't know any other way to be." His generosity was simply who he was.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Barbara, and beloved grandson, Landon.
Brad is survived by his beloved wife, April (Falkenthal) Hussung; his daughters, Natalie (Hussung) Schneider, Mariel (Hussung) Billetdeoux, and Ivy (Hussung) Lopedito; and his cherished grandchildren, Haden, Savannah, Kennedy, and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings, Debbie Riggins, Jill Hussung, and Ed Hussung, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. The service will be live streamed at fpcstpete.com for those unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations to:
