Lorraine G. Wheless

Lorraine Gersky Wheless, beloved wife, mother, Grandma and Great Grandma, passed away on September 15th 2026 after a brief illness. She was 94. Her family will miss her dearly.

Lorraine was born on August 5th, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY. Moving to Chicago, IL at a young age and spending her youth there in the Polish District. Later she would occasionally teach her family Polish words, some dirty. She joined the Military Assistance Advisory Group and moved to Brussels, Belgium in 1955 where she met the love of her life, Harvey Wheless. They were married in 1956 and returned to the US on the USS United States. She was the proud mother of Glen, Kathy, Mark, Laurie and Patricia, and the beloved Grandma of her ten grandchildren, and Great Grandma of five.

Lorraine settled in Clearwater, FL. Until recently, she lived in the same house that she and Harvey built together, raised their family in, enjoyed their retirement and welcomed increasing numbers of grandchildren until Harvey passed in 2009.


During her working years, Lorraine was a real estate agent and the Executive Assistant to the General Manager of the Belleview-Biltmore Hotel in Bellaire, FL. She volunteered many hours to help Morton Plant Hospital and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Her family has fond memories of her lovingly prepared homemade meals, especially her hush puppies and cherry tarts. Lorraine passed her work ethic and loving manner on to all her children and grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Harvey and her brother Leonard. She is survived by her son Glen (Martha), daughter Kathy (Dan), son Mark (Patty), daughter Laurie (Lee), and daughter Patricia (Steve). She is also survived by her grandchildren Elizabeth and Rebecca (Glen), Sarah and Rachel (Kathy), Savannah and Maggie (Mark), Cole and Claire (Laurie) and Varenna and Wesley (Patricia). Her great-grandkids, Beau, Kate, Simon, Walls and Noah will carry her memory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday September 29th, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Catherine of Siena Parish 1955 South Belcher Road Clearwater, FL 33764. Burial scheduled at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513 for 1:00 pm on the same day.
