Michael J. McNicholas Jr.

Mar 19, 1955 — Jul 19, 2026

Michael J. McNicholas, Jr., 71, passed away with family by his side on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Gulfside Hospice Center in New Port Richey, FL. He is the son of the late Helen E. McNicholas and Michael J. McNicholas, Sr., long-time residents of Woburn, Massachusetts. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Sharon N. McNicholas and his son, James McNicholas, both of Odessa, FL.; his brother, John McNicholas and his wife Pamela McNicholas both of Plymouth, MA; his sisters-in-law, Sheila Boussum and Judy Gilkinson both of Jasper, FL, several nieces and nephews, a grand-niece and a grand-nephew.

Michael graduated from Woburn Senior High School in 1973. After a brief engagement with the Gillette Company, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1974. Michael spent twenty (20) years in the Air Force working in warehouse and inventory supply operations with tours of duty in Korea, Italy and the Azores. He ascended to supervisory roles managing multimillion-dollar inventories and dozens of civilian employees and military personnel. The onset of a chronic illness forced Michael to retire from the Air Force in 1994. Although Michael’s own ability to participate in physical activities had been decimated by debilitating illnesses, he remained a passionate sports fan throughout his life embracing most fervently his home-town teams: the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins.

When able, Michael enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, visiting the casino, dining out, and just spending time with family and friends. His later years were not kind to his body, but Michael never relished lamenting his own condition. Instead, conversations always turned to the well-being of others, their interests and exploits, and alas, what acquisitions or trades the local 4 needed to win another championship. All the way to the very end, Michael refused to draw attention to himself. Instead, his message to all who loved him was to “Go do your thing!”

Honoring Mike’s wishes, in lieu of a wake or funeral mass, there will be a simple graveside service with military honors at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida on August 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
