Carol Anne Derry

     Carol was born in Long Beach, California, to Leonard and Rose Zilliox. She was their second child of six. She grew up in Long Beach, attending St Joseph Catholic Elementary School and then St. Anthony High School as a Freshman. Carol finished her high school education graduating from Millikan High School. She graduated from Long Beach City College with an Associate’s Degree as a Medical Assistant. Carol loved her Catholic Faith and was dedicated to always learning more about it. One of her favorite things was to pray the rosary as often as she could.

     Carol met and started dating Bruce in April of 1974, and they married on December 21, 1974. The new couple was blessed with their first daughter, Bonnie, in 1976. The next 7 years brought numerous trials and blessings with 3 more daughters, Kathryn, Kelly, and Elizabeth. Though busy raising our girls, Carol attended 2 years of Catholic Training to become a Director of Religious Education and worked as such at Holy Family and St. Joseph Catholic parishes, for about 5 years. Carol loved being a mother and wife. She dedicated her life to providing a happy and peaceful family environment, bringing her Catholic Faith to the family and our lifestyle whenever possible.

     Carol and Bruce raised the family in Long Beach, moving to Oakhurst, California in 1988. And as God provides, in 1992, Laura was born. Carol worked as a rural route postal carrier for 20 years while in Oakhurst. For 25 years the family lived in Oakhurst, watching the children grow into adults, going to college and/or move out on their own. Carol and Bruce moved to Boise, Idaho in the fall of 2013. Carol has been blessed with 22 beautiful and loving grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Thank you for your attendance today and it was Carol’s wish that prayers be said for her family and the souls in Purgatory.
