Judith "Judy" Rose Lloyd

Judith “Judy” Rose Lloyd passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 90, surrounded by family. After a month of hard work of rehabilitation from a broken hip, it proved to be too much for her and she went to live with our Heavenly Father and many loved ones.

Judy was born on May 13, 1936, in Woodworth, North Dakota where her grandparents homesteaded. Her parents stayed there and she was raised on the farm with her brothers. Her grandparents later opened a small café where she would be born in the back room of it.

Growing up she attended a one room country school in Woodworth and graduated in 1954 in a class of 16 students. Since she was young, she was always involved in every sport while occasionally playing with the boys’ team since a girls’ team didn’t always exist. Attending church and Sunday School were very important to her upbringing. She was proud to be baptized, confirmed, and married in the same small Lutheran church where she was raised.

One of the stories she liked to tell was of her grandpa sitting on the town porch with the local men and they were always dressed in their Sunday best. He asked her to perform a horse trick as she walked by with it. Excited to impress him and his friends, she thought she would run, jump, and mount the horse from behind. Trixie (the horse) was not impressed and quickly kicked her in the stomach and the mount was unsuccessful. She was fine, just a bruised ego.

Judy met her future husband Herbert “Herb” Lloyd, on a blind date. Her friends would tease her wanting to know which one of them was “blind” and which one of them was the “date” She remained married to Herb for 63 years until he passed away in 2021. After marriage they moved to Fargo, North Dakota where Herb graduated from NDSU in Civil Engineering. Judy worked two jobs to support them. There, she had their first two children, Tanya and Kelly. After graduation they moved to Boise, then Cascade and eventually to their farm in Meridian. In Idaho they had their next two children, Holly and Joni. When the girls got older, Judy began working for a doctor in Boise. She worked there for over 30 years developing lifelong friends.

Unfortunately, Judy knew tragedy with the sudden loss of their oldest child Tanya. Later in life, she would lose a second daughter, Kelly Lloyd Inman, the loss of her husband and her granddaughter, Emma Mills. Despite those tragedies, she did her best to continue to give all of herself to her remaining family. They gave her purpose and she would have done anything for them.

Judy lived a fulfilling and humble life. Where there was opportunity to see the world, doing anything with her family and friends took priority. Since Herb died, there was much time spent reminiscing about all of the wonderful things they had experienced in life. Some of her favorite memories were square dancing; playing softball; attending BSU football and basketball games; winters in Arizona; playing bridge; and the simple things like an ice-cold Coke and a hot cup of coffee. Judy said the most enjoyable time and her biggest accomplishment in life was raising her four daughters. She was proud to be a mom, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Mom, we will miss you and think of you daily. So many silly and loving memories will continue to make us smile. Selfishly, we would love to have been with you longer, but now you get to enjoy all of your loved ones in heaven, whom you had far too little time with here on Earth.
