Larry Lynn Koenig

Larry Lynn Koenig, son of John and Lucile Koenig, was born on October 16, 1945, and passed away quietly on September 9, 2026 at the age of 80. He was ready to meet his maker.

Larry was the youngest of seven siblings, all brothers and one sister. His parents and siblings preceded him in death. His wife, Carol, his son, Brad and wife, Sandie, and their three children: Grady and fiancee, Addie, Alyssa, and Ashley- and daughter, Lynnette Roberts and husband, Jason, will all greatly miss him.

Larry was born in Gordon, Nebraska, but grew up primarily in Winner, South Dakota and graduated from high school in 1963. He received his Bachelor Degree in biology from Black Hill State College. On August 3, 1968 he married the love of his life, Carol Ewing and often called her “his angel”. After working for the state of South Dakota for three years in Pierre, SD. Larry and Carol moved to Fridley, Minnesota where Larry worked toward his Master of Public Health Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1972.

Larry began work in Idaho with the health district in McCall, then moved to Pocatello, and finally moved to Boise, Idaho where he was employed by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). He worked to improve streams and drinking water throughout the state and worked closely with agriculture and cities. He took his job seriously and was instrumental in creating and developing effective programs for analyzing water quality. Larry later also worked for the state as a deputy administrator in the area of air quality.

Larry and Carol have two children both of which are hard workers and have very successful careers. Larry and Carol have always been proud of the adults that they each have become. Now they too, have been pleased to see their grandchildren grow up to be productive, responsible, professional adults.

Larry enjoyed traveling and seeing many different cultures and places. He took several cruises to Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Alaska, and the East Coast to Quebec City with stops in different states and/or countries. One trip that seemed to be very meaningful and a historical highlight was a visit to Boston, Massachusetts.

Larry will be remembered for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He was good at problem solving and maintained a happy, positive attitude.
