Lois Jean Forsmo

Lois Jean (Moe) Forsmo passed away on August 25, 2026, at St. Luke’s Meridian Emergency Room in Meridian, Idaho, at the age of 80. She had lived in Kuna, Idaho, for a little over a year.

Lois was born on April 14, 1946, to Albert and Linda Moe. She grew up on a dairy farm near DeForest, Wisconsin, at Pleasant Prairie Farms, alongside her three siblings: Jeanette Danielson, Alden Moe, and Elaine Strom.

From a very young age, Lois had a deep love for caring for animals in need, a passion for helping others that would carry through her entire life. She attended North Windsor School, a one-room country school located next to the family farm, and was active in 4-H and in Christ Lutheran Church in DeForest. A talented musician, Lois played flute and marimba in high school.

Lois attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, before transferring to Madison General Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, where she excelled in nursing school. She went on to hold prominent nursing positions throughout her career and later earned her master’s degree in occupational health. In the 1990s, Lois and her longtime boyfriend, Frank Alvstad, moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she worked at Dell Computers and the United Postal Service. Lois and Frank loved going to concerts and sporting events together, and Lois had a lifelong love of the movies and music, with Top Gun and Roadhouse among her favorite films, and The Beatles, The Bee Gees, and Taylor Swift among her favorite artists.

Above all, Lois loved her family. She was an avid sports fan, cheering on all University of Wisconsin sports teams as well as the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs in football, following college basketball closely (Caitlin Clark was a favorite), and enjoying hockey as well. Lois also kept up an active social life, texting daily with her many, many friends and treasuring those relationships throughout her life. Lois was also deeply philanthropic throughout her life and was very generous with her charitable donations, always ready to give back and support causes close to her heart.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Michelle Forsmo-Shadid, and Michelle’s wife, Christina Forsmo-Shadid, of Kuna, Idaho; her grandchildren, Jessy McGannon (spouse Riley), Jade Forsmo-Shadid (boyfriend Arturo Pena), Jayden Forsmo-Shadid, Janelle Forsmo-Shadid, and Jordan Forsmo-Shadid; and her first great-grandchild, Cairo, son of Jessy and Riley. She is also survived by her foster daughter, Theresa Dahlk, and Theresa’s husband, Scott, their children, Travis, Jessica (boyfriend Bryce), and Garrett (wife Hannah), and Theresa’s grandchild, Harper, daughter of Garrett and Hannah.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Linda Moe; her brother, Alden Moe; her sister, Jeanette Danielson; and her long-term boyfriend, Frank Alvstad, who passed on July 3, 2018.

Lois always said she wanted her ashes spread on Washington Island in Door County, Wisconsin, and her family will be honoring that wish next summer.
