Nellie May Bonjour
Mar 12, 1931 — Aug 11, 2026
In Loving Memory of Nellie May Bonjour
Nellie May Bonjour (née Neilson), affectionately known as “Sister” in her youth, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 11, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona, at the remarkable age of 95.
Nellie was born in Racine, Wisconsin, and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was a woman defined by her boundless kindness, a sharp sense of humor, and a heart that held no malice; she truly never said a bad word about anyone. Nellie dedicated much of her life to uplifting her community, beginning as a passionate volunteer for the Salvation Army, which later turned into a fulfilling career from which she eventually retired.
Above all accomplishments, Nellie was an extraordinary matriarch who loved children deeply. She would have done anything for anyone, always putting others first. Her wonderful wit was present until the very end. Recently, while in the hospital, her daughter Tina told her she was the best mom in the whole world. With her characteristic humility and humor, Nellie replied, "Ah Tina, you can't say that because you don't know all the mothers in the world." They lovingly settled on: "You're the best mother I know."
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Florence Neilson; her beloved husband, James Bonjour Sr.; her three brothers, Sonny Neilson, Jim Neilson, and Larry Neilson; her son, James Bonjour Jr.; and her two daughters, Vickie Buckley and Joani Bonjour.
Her beautiful legacy lives on through her surviving family, including her daughters, Linda, Cindy, Tina, and Melody; her sons, Kevin, David, and Josh; and her brother, David. She also leaves behind a large, loving family filled with numerous cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss her warmth every day.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday, August 31st at Adair Funeral Home, Avalon Chapel, located at 8090 N. Northern Ave.
Burial Service will follow immediately at Holy Hope Cemetery, located at 3555 N. Oracle Rd.
