Gene Forrest Mckelvy

March 28, 1937 — July 6, 2020

Born in Houston, Texas and raised in Globe, Arizona, Gene enlisted in the Navy, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He became a member of the Underwater Demolitions Team UDI, otherwise known as the “Frogs”. As he looked to the future, he chose to explore the opportunities the military had to offer and earned his GED. After 20 years of active service, he retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Gene chose to continue living in Tucson, Arizona with his family, finding work for Tucson Electric Power Co. He worked there for 25 years, until he retired in 1999. He would spend his days doing what he loved - riding his motorcycle on trips, working on cars, doing a bit of woodworking to make furniture, and even dabbling in a bit of remodeling. Always willing to lend a hand, Gene would help others no matter the task. He would get the job done - cracking jokes and being the genuine person he always was.

Five years after his passing, his family continues to carry on the love that he fostered in life. This love is carried by his wife of 37 years, Lorna, his daughter, Ginger Elliot, and his two sons, Gene Jr. and Bryan. His expanded family includes 8 children, 14 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Gene leaves a legacy for them as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

“There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone.

The light remains.”
