Betty Lou Schmidt

Betty Lou Schmidt passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 14, 2026 at The Garden Square at Westlake in Greeley, Colorado. She was 99 years old. She was born on October 16th, 1926 in Pawnee City Nebraska, to Eliza Abbie (Smith) Miller and William Henry Miller.

Betty was raised on a farm Northeast of Akron, Colorado along with her 10 brothers and sisters. She was the 10th of 11 children in her family who lived, worked, and completed schooling in their small farming community. After finishing school, she worked as the Deputy Assessor in Akron for 2 years, during which time she met a handsome man on leave from the Navy. He was convinced from the moment he saw her across the soda shop that she was the one. Betty agreed, and on September 8, 1946 she married Roy O. Schmidt in Akron, where they farmed 480 acres outside of town and taught school. They moved to Greeley, Colorado in 1948 where they raised their three children and enjoyed an active lifestyle in their community full of meaningful connections with friends, family and their church. Betty was married to Roy for 63 years until his passing in 2009.

Betty continued her work as an educator as an assistant teacher at Christian Pre-School for 10 years in Greeley. In 1976, she went to work at the University of Northern Colorado where she eventually retired in 1991 as the Freshman Supervisor of Admissions.

Betty was an active member of The Elks (Does) B.P.O.E 809. She was a member of The Highland Hills Golf Association, the Country Club Bowling League, and The Boomerang Golf Club. She also had several Bridge groups. She was a past Elder & Deacon at First United Presbyterian Church, a Prayer Usher, and taught Sunday school for many years.

Betty was the most loving, faithful, and devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, doting on her family until her last days. She enjoyed watching her family grow and treasured each and every one of her 11 great grandchildren. She showed true faith through her actions and service to others throughout her life and she has instilled this faith in many of her family members and friends. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by 2 of her children Lee (Julie) Schmidt and Dwight Schmidt, her grandchildren Christopher Schmidt, Josef (Karlie) Schmidt, Brian (Kaitlin) Schmidt, Jess Scott, Levi Schmidt, Sarah (James) Workman, our close family friend Bob Thomason and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is joyfully reunited in Heaven with her husband Roy, her daughter Jana, her parents, siblings and many of her friends and family members.

Visitation will be from 9:30am to 10:30am at Adamson Life Celebration Home 2000 47th Avenue Greeley CO 80634 followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00pm at Cornerstone Community Church 1321 9th Avenue Greeley CO 80631
