Douglas James Wentz
Aug 13, 1950 — Aug 6, 2026
Douglas Wentz, 75 years old, passed away on August 6, 2026, at North Colorado Medical Center.
Doug was born on August 13, 1950, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He was adopted by Floyd and Audrey Wentz as an infant. He grew up in Greeley, Colorado, where he graduated from Greeley Central High School. He then attended NJC in Sterling for a short time and later graduated from Aims Community College with an Associate of Arts degree. The majority of his adult life was spent farming on the family farm in Fort Morgan, Colorado. During the winters he worked at Great Western Sugar during their sugar campaign.
On January 9, 1977, he married his soul mate, Shirley Jean Scheidler, and they were married for 49 years. Together they raised two children on the family farm until 2004, when they sold the farm and moved to Greeley.
Doug was an avid history buff, especially WW2, and a Star Trek fan. He loved mystery and science fiction. He also had a love of railroads and model railroading. He was a huge fan of all planes, trains, and boats.
He loved spending time with his family and would never miss a potluck or family meal. Some of his favorite foods were BBQ, KFC, and Oreos.
He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh that everybody enjoyed.
Even into his retirement he was always coming up with new ideas, researching and exploring different business ideas or skills he wanted to learn.
Doug was a quiet and humble man, yet his presence filled a room, and he will be dearly missed by his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Audrey Wentz; his sister, LaRue Wentz; and his two grandchildren, Ellie and Aden Wentz. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his daughter Jennifer (Josh) and their children Aleah, Adalee, Lilyana, Nathaniel, and Hannah; his son Kevin and Kevin’s daughter Mia; his sister-in-law Susie (John) Townsend; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Private services will be held on August 22.
