Helen M. Frederick was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Raymond and Minnie (Lee) Fierce as the youngest of nine children. She graduated from high school in Winnipeg and attended Winnipeg Business College.

Helen moved to San Francisco, CA where she attended City College of San Francisco, and worked for Southern Pacific RR. She met Walter H. Frederick, Jr. attending a mutual friend’s wedding. They dated and then married at Nellis AFB, NV in December 1955. She led the life of an Air Force officer’s wife as they were stationed at many different locations. Their family grew to four children (Janice, Scott, Clay, Lisa) as they moved around the United States and even spent time in the Philippine Islands during Walt’s Viet Nam missions. Retirement brought the family to Greeley, CO in 1969 where she raised the children and attended Aims Community College in Greeley, CO. Walt passed away in July 1974 leaving her a widow with four kids under 18.

Helen enjoyed sewing and painting and was an avid hockey and football fan. She was a good golfer and was a member of the Highland Hills Women’s Golf Association and the Boomerang Links Women’s Golf Association. The children all graduated from college, got married, and each had two children of their own, making Helen a grandmother of eight in a five-year period. Helen was a strong, independent woman and a good friend to many.

She met Ken Shiflet at a golf event and discovered they had a lot in common. They married in January 1998. They enjoyed a rich and rewarding retired life which included golfing, traveling for Ken’s volunteer work as the president of the Colorado State Patrol Retiree Association, and visiting with family and friends. They designed and built a beautiful home in Greeley and enjoyed many years there before moving to Windsor in July 2022. Ken passed away in February 2025.

Helen lived independently to the very end of her life, enjoying exercise classes, art classes, getting her hair done, and dining with friends in the Good Samaritan Water Valley Windsor building. She will be greatly missed by many but had a wonderful 97 years before she passed away after a brief illness.

She is survived by her daughter Janice Guerra (Tom) and granddaughters Kristin and Shannon; her son Scott Frederick (Martha) and grandson Cole and granddaughter Jenessa; her son Clay Frederick (Lynne) and grandson Dane and granddaughter Tara Hampton (Aaron) and two great-grandsons Harvey and Everett Hampton; son-in-law Seamus Dunne (Cheryl) and grandson Kyle and granddaughter Ciara. She is survived by Ken Shiflet’s family: daughter Beth (John) Baumgartner; daughter Karen (Mike) Neff, grandson Levi Neff, grandson John (Ivey) Neff and two great-grandsons Zakk and Frankie Neff.

She is predeceased in death by her parents and eight siblings, Walter H. Frederick, Jr., daughter Lisa (Frederick) Dunne, and Kenneth W. Shiflet as well as members of the Fierce, Frederick and Shiflet families, and many good friends.

In keeping with Helen's wishes, no public service will be held. Her family will honor her memory privately.
