Janice Sue Hayes

Janice Sue Hayes age 80, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026 in Greeley, Colorado.

She was born July 13, 1946 in Oakland City, Indiana to Albert Hardin Hougland and Bessie Henrietta Pearson Hougland. She was preceded in death by her parents and her half-brother, Harold Edward Hougland. She is survived by her sister, Diane Carol Meade; her children, Meredith Anne Andresen and Matthew David Hayes, and her beloved grandchildren.

Janice graduated cum laude from the University of Evansville in 1968 with a degree in nursing. She later earned a master’s degree in pediatric nursing from Indiana University and a PhD in Human Development from Purdue University. She taught at Indiana State University and devoted her career to teaching, research, and the study of child development, including extensive work in rural Jamaica.

She was known for her quiet strength, deep commitment to education, and lifelong curiosity about how children grow and thrive. Her work reflected both compassion and discipline, and she approached every role—as scholar, teacher, mother, and grandmother—with steady dedication and care.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who expressed her love through steadfast presence, support, and care for her family.

A memorial service will be held at Adamson Life Celebration Home on Monday September 21, 2026 at 1:00pm.
