Laurie Jeanne Hammer

Laurie Jeanne Hammer, 62, peacefully went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband and daughters. 

The daughter of Angelo and Shirley Spensieri, Laurie was born January 27, 1964 in Wichita, Kansas. 

While living in Lakewood, Colorado, she met and fell in love with her husband, Greg. The two were married at Golden Church of Christ on July 24, 1982. In 1992, the couple settled in Greeley, Colorado where they raised their four daughters. 

After a short career as a server and manager at Coyote’s Southwestern Grill, she was employed by the Weld County District Attorney as a Victim Witness Assistant for 16 years. After retiring she and Greg enjoyed traveling and visits to their daughters and grandchildren. 

Laurie will be remembered for her loving spirit, her servant heart, and a dedicated work ethic. She was known to make friends anywhere she went, and to always be ready to reach out a helping hand to both friends and strangers alike. In any job she held, from typing to restaurant service to being a civil servant, she worked hard to do her very best and make a lasting impact. In her role as a Victim Witness Assistant, she helped countless men and women navigate a criminal justice system that can be intimidating and difficult. She was proud to be an advocate for those whose voices had been taken from them. 

Laurie not only leaves a legacy of love and light, but a number of works of art in the form of quilts. Her love of sewing began with dresses and Halloween costumes for her daughters and grandchildren, and developed into a knack for quilting. Each piece she made was lovingly built by hand, and are a gift to anyone who is lucky to receive one. Her sewing room was her happy place. 

Affectionately known as Ammie, Laurie was devoted to her daughters and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. From dance recitals to soccer games to birthdays, she was there to celebrate all the best moments, big and small. 

Laurie leaves behind her husband, four daughters; Lyndsay Rae Orr (Ryan) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Lynae Ann Hammer of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Loryn Lee Wheeler (Korey) of Norman, Oklahoma, and Layne Noel Hammer-Rios (Alberto) of Maastricht, The Netherlands. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, Owen and Oliver Orr of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Landrie Mohondro of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Eric, Lola, Leon and Emry Wheeler of Norman, Oklahoma. Laurie leaves her parents, Shirley and Angelo Spensieri, and her siblings, sister Richelle Reilly (Tom) of Littleton, Colorado, brother Brian Spensieri, Greeley, and sister Angie Marty of St. Paul, Minnesota. She also leaves behind two nieces and countless other family members and friends. 

Laurie was preceded in death by her brother Eric Spensieri of Greeley, Colorado. 

A memorial service will be held at Westview Church of Christ, 4151 W 20th Street on September 1, at 6:30 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to A Woman’s Place of Greeley, or Life Stories Child and Family Advocacy.
