Myrna Wuanita Reese-Stevens
January 4, 1942 — April 30, 2026
Myrna Wuanita Reese was born January 4, 1942, in Loveland, Co to John Reese, Jr. and Hazel Elmeta (Clark) Reese. She attended school in La Salle and married Larry Stevens on February 6th, 1960. Myrna passed away on April 30th at the Life Care of Greeley Nursing Home.
Myrna completed Colorado Addiction (CAC 1) courses and on-going courses in related fields (CAC II) at Aims Community College. While her formal training provided her with a valuable skillset, it was her kind heart, compassionate nature and desire to help others that made Myrna successful in her career. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Myrna began working with organizations including the Residential Treatment Center in Greeley, Weld County Legal Services, Child Advocacy Resource and Education, Inc. and C.A.R.E. house in Greeley. Additionally, she volunteered for more than 15 years with the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance as a Volunteer Victim Advocate for the Greeley Police Department attending the annual COVA Conference in Keystone, Co for many years.
Much of Myrna's energy was centered around helping others. Cooking was one of her favorite ways to support those in her life that needed a little something extra. Whether it be cooking for a friend who was ill, a grieving family or any of the friends of her children who always seemed to be around at mealtimes; Myrna provided a meal made with love. Family and friends were incredibly important to Myrna. She taught her children to be their own person and to think for themselves, even if their opinions differed from her own. She wanted them to experience the joy of being independent.
Myrna was fiercely loyal, especially in deference to her grandchildren, and she loved unconditionally. "Biological" was not in Myrna's vocabulary. Once she loved you, you became her child/ grandchild/ sibling / niece or nephew. And while Myrna's actions spoke volumes of her love for her friends and family, she always made sure to say, "I love you." In her spare time, Myrna was avid reader of mysteries. Often completing a book a day, she would fight off the tendrils of sleep just to be able to read those final words, "The End." And while she did dabble in the digital format of reading, it was print books that were her favorite. She would argue that holding the book in her hand was the very best way to enjoy it. She enjoyed books from authors such as James Patterson and John Grisham and reading the Hannah Swensen series more than once. Myrna shared her love of reading by gifting books as often as she could.
Myrna is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Les) Happel of Greeley; daughter-in-law Peggy Stevens of Greeley; son Dennis (Fay) Stevens of Sulligent, AL; son Terry (Shannon) Stevens of Evans; and son Jason (Brenda) Stevens of Greeley. She was blessed with 19 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and 8 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Samantha Darleen Washack; her brother, James Patrick Reese; her son, Jimmy Stevens and grandsons Kristopher Roof and Patrick Stevens; Grandson-in-law, Brian Ballard; Great-Granddaughter, Samantha Wilson; Great-Grandson, Gavin Ybarra; Great-great Grandson, Asher Corbell and friend/companion/partner in crime, Paul Sagel.
