Virgil Lee Simoens

Virgil Simoens, 68, of Greeley, was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Virgil was a respected professional and highly skilled fabricator whose dedication, integrity, and mentorship earned the admiration of those who worked alongside him.

Virgil was born on May 5, 1957, in Phoenix, Arizona. He spent his early years growing up in Fort Collins, where he developed a strong work ethic and an early interest in hands-on fabrication. That passion led him to pursue welding, a field in which he would build a long and successful career.

In 1976, Virgil completed his welding certification, marking the beginning of his professional journey. His dedication and skill quickly set him apart, and by 1984 he became a welding inspector. Continuing to excel, he earned the title of Senior Weld Inspector in 1990. He held this title for decades.

In 1986, Virgil was united with Pam, the love of his life. They shared many meaningful years together until her passing in 2011.

In 1998, Virgil was employed at Leed Fabrication. Through his years of commitment and leadership, he rose to become Vice President of Operations before retiring in 2014. He was well respected by his colleagues and peers alike for his knowledge and expertise, integrity, and leadership.

After retirement, Virgil embraced his hobbies and passions. He spent much of his time enjoying his mini train with friends at the railroad club (Colorado Live Steamers) in Byers. He was also a dedicated Denver Broncos fan, rarely missing a chance to cheer on his team.

His daughters were among his greatest joys, and he loved nothing more than spending time with them. He delighted in sharing his lifelong passion for trains and antique tractors. Whether riding behind a steam engine or chasing one or giving tractor rides to his grandkids, those moments allowed him to share something he loved with his family. Memories that will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his 3 daughters, Crystal (Scott) Turley, Catherine “CJ” Simoens, and Karen (Mike) Kruse. 10 grand-kids and 5 great-grandkids. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, and grandson Justin Depperschmidt.
