Wayne Arnold Sodman 92, of Greeley died Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He was born February 2, 1934 in Auburn, Nebraska. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. After High school he briefly attended the University of Nebraska, before deciding to join the United States Army to serve his country.
He served in the 9th Field Artillery attached to the 3rd Infantry Division. He was soon deployed overseas, where he served during the Korean War. He took great pride in being a Korean War Veteran. When he got out of the service he returned home to Nebraska where he soon met the love of his life. On June 7, 1958, he married Alice Anne Moran in Omaha. He was married for 57 years until her passing in 2015. Together they had four beautiful children. During his stint in the Army, he was stationed in Colorado. After being immersed in the beauty of Colorado during his Army training, he made a promise to someday return.
In 1960, the family decided to move over 500 miles away to Greeley Colorado. This is where they chose to raise their family. He was a man of many hats, skilled in many trades. He made a career working as a supervisor for Teledyne until his retirement. Not one to sit still, he focused his energy on gardening and woodworking to pass the time in his golden years. He was an avid sports fan. Being a Denver Broncos season ticket holder for many years. Faith remained the guiding light for his life. He took great pride in being a founding member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greeley Colorado. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy Sodman, and Kelly (Eva) Sodman; son-in-law, David Weiderspon; 4 grandchildren, Austin (Hannah) Weiderspon, Zach (Kharesa) Weiderspon, Matt (Dima) Weiderspon, Wayne J. Sodman; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Sodman; his daughters, Kathie Weiderspon, and Ellie Sodman; his parents and his siblings. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in the family's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
A Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church followed by a Mass service at 11:00 a.m. A Reception will be held following the Mass service at Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
