Juanita Monajoy Hill
Jan 18, 1935 — Aug 28, 2026
Juanita Monajoy Hill was born on January 18, 1935, to the late Ira Samuel Wright and Lillian Hull Wright. Affectionately known as “Mona” or “Monajoy” by all who knew her, she was born and raised on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in the Wicomico County community of Wetipquin, Maryland. Mona transitioned to eternal life on August 28, 2026.
Mona received her early education at Wetipquin Elementary School and graduated from Salisbury High School. She continued her education after moving to Baltimore City, attending Cortez Peters Business School, a pioneering Black-owned vocational institute founded in Washington, D.C. There, Mona became proficient in typing, shorthand, and other civil service subjects. The skills she acquired at Cortez Peters enabled her to secure a position with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Washington, D.C., serving for over 25 years.
Mona met William “Bill” Hill on a blind date in 1958, beginning a lasting love story that would exceed any expectations of time. Bill and Mona married on December 19, 1959, and this union was blessed with a son, Kevin Darrell Hill. A devoted husband and father, Bill cherished Mona and showed his love in countless ways throughout their 55 years of marriage.
Mona and her family lived in Glenarden, Maryland, for 51 years. Civic-minded and active in her community, she deeply loved her neighbors and the town of Glenarden.
Mona is survived by her adopted sister, Lucy Cornish; adopted brother, Timothy Smith; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hill, wife of Kevin; grandson, Kevin Jordan Hill; granddaughters, Jeshawna Stevens and Toni Stevens; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Mona was preceded in death by her husband, William Hill; son, Kevin Darrell Hill; sister, Iris Willamae Warren; and brothers, Sinclair Wright, Franklin Wright, and Tyrone Smith.
