It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Jean Houger (Gustafson), who passed away peacefully on July 11th, 2026, at the age of 78, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 26th, 1947, in Maynard, Minnesota to Maurice and Ardell Gustafson. Jean lived a life defined by her warmth, grace, and devotion to those she loved. She dedicated her years to her family, always there with a listening ear, a warm embrace, and endless patience. After graduating from Maynard High School, she earned a master’s degree in occupational therapy from North Dakota State University and built a successful 20-year career, retiring in 2004. She touched countless young lives with her patience and kindness. At the heart of Jean’s life was her beloved husband, Donald. Their bond was one of unwavering love and mutual respect. Together they built a life centered around family and shared experiences. Jean was a devoted mother who took great pride in supporting her children and grandchildren—whether it was offering a listening ear and wise advice or cheering from the sidelines at sporting and music events. She poured her heart into making a loving home for her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald Houger; survived by her three children, Troy (Heidi), Corey (Sarah), and Nicolle (Dave); and eight grandchildren Tristan, Seth, Svea, Avah, Landon, Levi, Abbi, and Maci. Jean is preceded in death by her oldest brother Paul (Beth). She is survived by her 2 brothers, Kevin (Donna) and Bobby (Leslie) and her sister Karen (Wayne) and many nieces and nephews.
