Robert Adam Vanderland

Robert Adam Vanderland, lovingly known as Bob, passed away on August 28th, 2026, at the age of 48. He was born in Utica, NY on November 5th, 1977, to Tina (Vanderland) Paonessa and the late Robert S. Vanderland.

Bob graduated from Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, CO where he proudly competed with the Special Olympics in basketball and bowling. After high school he completed a transition educational program at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. Living on his own at college gave him a sense of pride and independence that would carry into adulthood.

Bob was an avid sports fan. He was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos and New York Yankees throughout his life. Most days were spent representing the Denver Broncos with his extensive collection of gear, as he wasn’t often seen without a Broncos hat or lanyard on. He cheered at many Broncos games with family and friends and attended the Super Bowl XXI game.

A passion for music wove a thread through Bob’s life. His eclectic tastes were represented well in his huge collection of CDs. His love for country music started early on with him becoming what must have been Kenny Rogers’ youngest super fan. He attended many country music concerts and delighted in singing every word of every song. His musical tastes also included Andrea Bocelli. He saw him live in concert many times and often accompanied him, sometimes even singing in Italian! Bob loved music and experienced it fully and with joy.

Bob was a valued part of the Castle Rock community. He was a fixture at the local fire department, library, Eagles club, and the Knights of Columbus. He worked as a courtesy clerk for King Soopers for 20 years. Bob was always ready with a quick smile, an update on the Broncos, the weather forecast or a helping hand. He took great pride in his work and will be missed as an integral part of their team and a friendly, familiar face for the patrons.

Traveling brought Bob joy and he particularly enjoyed going to New York to see family and Las Vegas to see shows and eat great food. He also enjoyed visiting friends in Texas and supporting his friends at bowling tournaments regularly.

Bob’s apartment was his haven and home for all his collections. He enjoyed collecting hats, Broncos gear, baseball cards, sports memorabilia, and commemorative mugs. He was known as the “keeper of the family memories” as his home was filled with family pictures, home movies and sentimental items. He took great pride in living independently and would often remind visitors that in his apartment it was: “Bob’s House, Bob’s Rules!”

Above all else, Bob loved his family and sharing time with them. His love for his family was at the heart of who he was. He was fortunate to have many friends from all the various parts of his life, with whom he enjoyed many social activities. His friends know there was not a game, movie, parade, concert, show or event that Bob would not show up to with a smile when included.

Bob was fortunate to have special friends who went above and beyond for him. A heartfelt thank you to Bruce Thorsen for being a tireless, on demand support for Bob. His kindness and willingness to support Bob’s needs meant so much to him. Special recognition goes to Bob’s long-time buddy, Matt LeClaire, whose friendship brought fun and adventure and was an important part of Bob’s life.

Bob is survived by his loving mother, Tina Paonessa; his sister, Krista Haubert; brother-in-law, Bryan Haubert and niece, Eden Haubert, who held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his aunt, Sharon Bastek, uncle, Jerry Bastek and cousins Jared Bastek, Anna Pettersen, Kara McGonigal and many extended family members who will miss him dearly. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Vanderland and stepfather John A. Paonessa.

Bob will be remembered for all the lovable characteristics and personality that made him uniquely and unmistakably Bob. His passing leaves an immeasurable hole in the hearts of those who loved and cared for him. May the many memories we shared with him bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.

Rest peacefully, Bob. You will be deeply missed, forever remembered and always loved.
