Ella Trujillo
d. May 5, 2026
Ella Marie Trujillo (née Gallegos) of Thornton, Colorado, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, following a years-long health struggle.
The sixth of seven siblings, Ella was born on May 19, 1937, to Guillermo and Geneva Gallegos in Fort Garland, Colorado.
Ella married Moises Trujillo on September 24, 1956, and together they welcomed five sons: Anthony, Ron, Mo, Gary, and Tim.
A proud daughter of The Valley, Ella spent her early childhood in Fort Garland, Colorado, growing up among the San Luis Valley’s rich agricultural and Hispanic heritage. While she spent the majority of her adult life in the Denver metro area, Ella’s heart never truly left Fort Garland. Her pride in being from The Valley was something she always carried with her.
In the late 1940s, Ella and her family relocated to northern Colorado, where they lived on ranches in Masters and Johnstown. It was there that she graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955. Following high school, Ella moved to Denver to pursue a nursing career at the city’s Mercy Hospital. However, this plan was derailed when Ella met and later married Moises Trujillo. The remainder of her working career was spent as a security guard at Lincoln High School and running Burrito Time, the small business she established with her husband and her beloved nephew, John Gallegos.
After brief stints in Oakland, California, and Pueblo, Colorado, Ella and Moises settled in Thornton, Colorado. It was there that she became a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church in 1963. Holy Cross not only fostered her faith but provided her with lifelong friendships. She remained an active member of the church until her passing. Ella lived her life as a devout Catholic who regularly prayed the rosary and modeled her life after Christ. She was generous, humble, understanding, loyal, and loving traits that came to define her.
Ella is survived by her sons Anthony (Penny), Ron (Lisa), Mo (Joanne), Gary (Susie), and Tim (Denise); 13 grandchildren (and their respective partners); 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Moises Trujillo; her parents, Guillermo and Geneva Gallegos; her siblings Ruby Mondragon, Toni Roybal, Cecilia Santiago, Julie Garcia, Rudy Gallegos, and Jim Gallegos; her grandsons Antonio Trujillo and Rion Trujillo; and many beloved nieces and nephews, including John Gallegos and Edward Gallegos.
Ella was a simple woman who valued relationships over material things. Her devotion to God and love for her family will live on and continue to be an example for those she leaves behind.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, at Holy Cross Catholic Church (9371 Wigham St, Thornton, CO 80229). The rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
