Fairy Tom George Smith

On Friday, October 16, 2026, Fairy Tom George Smith, 89, of Amarillo, was called home to our Lord in Erie, Colorado.

Fairy was born to Tommy and Abby George on January 13, 1937, in Gordon, Texas, where she grew up. She met the love of her life, Wayne Smith Jr., at Tarleton University and married him on New Year's Day in 1957. Together, they raised a family at Texas Tech in Lubbock before moving to Amarillo.

She was a devoted wife and mother, a favored substitute teacher, a savvy bridge player, an involved member of Polk Street Methodist Church, the best grandmother, and our beloved matriarch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; daughter, Jean; son, Russell; her parents; and countless close friends. Her surviving family includes her eldest son, Mike; daughter-in-law, Brenda; grandchildren Jenifer, Lyndsay, Stephen, and Mary; and great-grandchildren Wayne, Mark, Jacob, and Emma.

A memorial service will be held at a future date, and the family requests that donations be made to Polk Street Methodist Women or the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.
