Lew Huntington

Jul 19, 1947 — Jul 8, 2026

Lewis Radel Huntington, 78, of Boulder, Colorado, died July 8, 2026, in Boulder.

Lew was born July 19, 1947, in Fremont, Nebraska, to Dr. Lowell L. Huntington and Irene Huntington. He graduated from Midland College with a bachelor’s degree and held several jobs, including teaching and managing a car wash.

His greatest passion was hot air ballooning, which brought him to Colorado. He made his home in Boulder and built a successful ballooning business, competing in balloon races and becoming a well-loved member of the community.

When health issues prevented him from flying, Lew turned to creative projects, writing brochures and pamphlets to assist others. One of his final projects was an evacuation plan for area wildfires. OZO Coffee became his “office away from home,” where he collaborated with others on these publications.

Lew shared his father’s love of animals and was often accompanied by his beloved dog, Daisy, who preceded him in death. To his nieces, he was the “fun uncle,” remembered for his creativity, adventurous spirit and ability to dream.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Lowell L. Huntington and Irene Huntington, and Daisy. He is survived by his older sister, Sharon H. Weedman of Indianapolis; nieces Leslie, Lisa and Lauren, also of Indianapolis; and cousins in Nebraska from the Hoover family.

Fly high, Lew.
