Mabelle "May" Aragon

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Mabelle “May” Aragon, who entered eternal rest on September 4th, 2026.

Born in Mamou, Louisiana, in 1928, May was the first child of Patrick and Rohida (Deshotel) Vezinat. She was full of energy and ideas from the very beginning. Her first language was French, and it was through school that she learned English. Even all these years later, she expressed that she still dreamed in and preferred to speak her native language. She was known as a child for talking all the time which, honestly, never changed. She also often spoke about how she had always been small in stature, but she never let that get in her way.

She met her late husband, Sipriano “John” Aragon, in the early 1940s, and they were married before he was drafted into World War II in 1943. Together, they went on to have three children: Christopher, Gregory, and Patrick.

Mabelle was a wonderful mother who gave her all to raising her boys. It was never a secret that when each of them passed, a little bit of her passed with them. She grieved the loss of her husband and her children every day, but somehow, she continued to find a way forward. She was a woman of deep faith, and until her final day, she prayed her rosary every morning.

She worked many trades throughout her life, including as a nurse, real estate agent, body shop owner, and caregiver, among many others. She was disciplined, motivated, hardworking, and deeply invested in everything she took on. Even in her later years, she tended to her rose garden and took great pride in watching her roses blossom.

She had six grandchildren, whom she often expressed were her reason for continuing after such tremendous losses. She had a special relationship with each of them and always made sure they knew how important they were to her. She also had numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She had many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and she spoke with most of them frequently. She was the matriarch of the family for many generations, and we were all so blessed to have her in our lives.

She also had many friends from all over, some of whom she had known for decades and others she met in more recent years. If you asked someone what they loved most about her, they would likely tell you it was her stories and her laugh. She was a storyteller with countless memories and experiences, always ready to share another story from her life.

In the last few years, she had a companion, George, whom she loved very much. He was a wonderful friend to her, and together they were able to create so many special memories.

While her passing was initially a shock to everyone, no one could have asked for a more peaceful ending to such a long and meaningful life. She was loved by so many and will be missed greatly.

Her memory will now live on in the stories that we continue to share, the ones she told us, and the ones that we had with her. We are now her storytellers.

Her services will be held on October 16th, 2026, at 11am at Fort Logan Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
