Richard Ernest Lebsock
Jan 19, 1939 — Oct 21, 2026
Richard Ernest Lebsock, 87, passed away on October 21, 2026, in Westminster, Colorado.
Born on January 19, 1939, in Brush, Colorado, to Heinrich (Henry) and Viola Lebsock, Richard lived a life marked by service, hard work, and dedication to his family. He served his country in the United States Air Force, where he retired before continuing his career with the State of Colorado, from which he also retired.
On November 7, 1981, Richard married Joyce in Westminster, Colorado. They shared nearly 45 years of marriage and a family that continued to grow through the generations.
Rich, also lovingly known as Big Rich, and Papa, was always busy and rarely sat still. Handy and meticulous, he took great pride in his home and yard. He believed in taking care of things and making sure they were done right. As he liked to say, “Don’t let a nickel hold up a dollar.” His family learned practical lessons early, from the importance of changing a furnace filter to the patience required to hold a flashlight exactly where Papa needed it.
He gave generously of his time, delivering Meals on Wheels, teaching neighborhood children to ride bikes, and cheering from the sidelines at his grandchildren’s sporting events. Neighbors knew him from his regular walks with the dogs, and attending church on Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings was part of his life.
Rich loved a good debate, especially over coffee after his morning walks. Even when he agreed with someone, he might argue the other side just to keep the conversation going. He enjoyed his Baileys, and his familiar expressions—“Wow-Wee,” “Fair in the middle, sore on the side,” and “Nice to see ya”—will remain part of the family’s memories of him.
Richard is survived by his wife, Joyce; three children, Melinda Hatfield, Lisa Lebsock, and Rodney (Sheila) Lebsock; two stepchildren, Christie (Tom) Williams and Cindy Larson; 18 grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Gavin, Aaron, Elijah, Brandon, Alisha, Corey, Prestyn, Ashtyn, Megan, Abigail, Mason, Matt, Shane, Zach, Ashley, and Colton; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Viola; brothers, Leo (Gene) and Kenneth; sister, Colleen; grandson, Nick; and son-in-law, Chad.
His legacy lives on through the family and friends whose lives were touched by his generosity, strength, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever honored for the example he set as a father and Papa through a lifetime of service, integrity, and dedication to those he loved.
