Edward L. Eden III

Much loved brother, brother-in-law, uncle and dear friend, Ed Eden, 85, passed away at his home in Lakewood, CO on September 14, 2026.

He was born in Colorado to Edward L Eden, Jr, DVM and Zola Belle Alexander Eden on January 19, 1941. Ed grew up on his family’s dairy farm and ranch in Pueblo, CO where he graduated from Central High School. 

Ed served in the air force and was stationed in Greenland in October of 1962. As the world teetered on the edge of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Ed and his comrades in the air traffic controller’s tower kept the fleet of B-52 bombers loaded with nuclear weapons continuously airborne and ready to cross into Russia 24/7. 

After his service, Ed found work as a local delivery driver for Budweiser in Fort Lauderdale then went on to become a long-haul truck driver for nearly 50 years. He crossed the United States hundreds of times, drove through treacherous mountain passes during the winter and the heartland, delivering the nation’s food. He logged more than 6 million miles without an accident. 

When cell phones arrived on the scene, Ed became the family’s reporter and the connection for his siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and parents dispersed across the country. In addition to spreading the family news, Ed shared the beauty of our great country as he logged another mile. 

Ed enjoyed all genres of music and would listen to Bob Dylan’s Theme Time Radio Hour every Sunday evening. If he knew you were a fellow music lover, he would share each episode’s theme with you. 

Ed’s faith was central to his life and his congregations’ home visits comforted him in his final weeks. Optimism and a sense of humor stayed with him until his last days. He will be forever missed by those who loved him. 

Ed is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Eden Gerringer and husband Lynn Gerringer, DVM, of Pueblo, CO; sister, Beverly Eden Hjelmeir, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; sister-in-law, Daisy Eden of Pueblo, CO, sister-in law, Cindy Eden, of Fort Lauderdale, FL ; nephews, Karl Gerringer, Steven Hjelmeir and wife Maria Ana, Brian Hjelmeir and wife Diana: nieces, Jere Eden, Bronte Eden, Davi Eden Duran and husband Aaron; great nieces and nephews, Kailyn Gerringer, Lilian Gerringer, Sarah Gerringer Keefer, Sawyer Goldschmidt, Zahara Eden, Branden Hjelmeir, Sarah Hjelmeir, Briana Hjelmeir, Dane Hjelmeir, and Thomas James Duran. 

Ed was predeceased by his brothers, James Lee Eden of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Thomas Eden of Pueblo, CO, and nieces Stephanie Gerringer Goldschmidt, and Lisa Gerringer O’Sullivan. 

The family wishes to thank those that helped make Ed’s last year comfortable, and to ensure his last wish to die at home came true…. The staff of Gentiva Hospice, particularly Sydney, the staff of HomeWatch Caregivers, particularly Julie, the brothers and sisters of The Kingdom Hall of Golden, CO, particularly Adam and Tony, and his friends, particularly Ricky. 

Services will be held on Friday, October 2nd at 4:30 p.m. Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 13607 W 8th Ave, Golden, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Golden, CO
